Because of its geography, Western China is one of China’s less developed areas. In recent years, however, the Chinese government has reaffirmed its “Go West” strategy. In late 2016, the government urged the regions in Western China to push forward supply-side structural reform, expand demand, boost innovation, continue to implement a western development strategy and strengthen coordination with other major initiatives, such as the Belt and Road Initiative and development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
The population within Western China’s main cities of Chengdu and Chongqing is 44 million residents. Because it is a major shipping center, Chongqing is a national logistics hub. Planned infrastructure spending exists to develop Chongqing as a financial and technology education center. The automotive and aerospace industries are active; electronics and related industries are growing, particularly within the Chongqing New North Zone.
Prologis owns and operates logistics facilities throughout West China.
