Jiaxing, one of the major cities within the Shanghai metropolitan area

Jiaxing, a prefecture-level city in Zhejiang Province, is one of the city groups in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) and is ranked among the top 100 Chinese cities in terms of GDP. Jiaxing is located in Northeast Zhejiang Province and in the hinterland of the Hangzhou–Jiaxing–Huzhou Plain, within a hundred kilometers from Hangzhou, Suzhou and Ningbo. It is a transportation-intensive city, with Shanghai-Hangzhou and Suzhou-Hangzhou traffic arteries running through it.

As one of the top 100 container ports in the world, Jiaxing Port is ahead of peer coastal ports in the province in terms of annual throughput and its growth rate. With its proximity to Shanghai, Jiaxing is able to consume an overload of warehousing demands from the city. The east-west intercity arterial road running through the jurisdiction makes the city into an important transit stop for Shanghai and other core cities in the YRD.
