North China, which lies on the banks of the Yellow River, is reputed to be the cradle of Chinese civilization. Economically, it is dominated by the Bohai Economic Rim (BER). Its major cities include Beijing, the capital of China, Tianjin, an important port city in the north, and Shenyang, an important logistics hub in Northeast China. The GDP of the BER reached 25 trillion yuan, about 21.9% of the country’s total.

North China has an extensive transportation network, including Beijing Capital International Airport, the largest and busiest civil airport in China, ranking second in the world in terms of passenger throughput, and Tianjin Port, a major transit route for freight to and from North China, ranking among the top 100 container ports in the world.

The region focuses on electronics, information technology, new energy, automobile and equipment manufacturing, 3C electronics, bio-medicine, deep processing of agricultural products and other industries.
